When you start to notice swelling in your arms, legs, or even breast tissue, it’s easy to think think there's nothing that can help, it will go away tomorrow, or you just were up on your feet too long.
Is that how you’re feeling right now? If so, you’re not alone. In fact, I help people who feel this way at Rome Physical Therapy. With swelling, everyone asks the same questions… Why does my leg or arm swell so much? (I don’t even know what I did…) Why isn’t the swelling going away? Am I going to have to live with this swelling and discomfort forever? Unfortunately, there’s a lot of bad information out there that causes people to live with swelling and lymphedema for way too long. Here are the most common myths I see people falling for when it comes to lymphedema... Myth #1: Thinking lymphedema will go away with rest or elevation. Myth #2: Believing that lymphedema will be “fixed” with medication. Myth #3: Assuming swelling is a “normal” part of getting older… Myth #4: Believing that since you tried other healthcare professionals (maybe even Physical Therapy) in the past means that it won’t work now. Myth #5: Relying on “Dr. Google” or YouTube for exercises that didn’t make any difference Have you been making these mistakes? If any of this has happened to you, I want to remind you that you’re not alone. In fact, I see people just like you every day. And that’s why I’ve created a free Lymphedema guide for you. It goes over 5 Tips for lymphedema (you can click on the button above to download it). But maybe you feel like you’ve read a lot of free information on the internet, and really just want to talk to someone about your problem. If that's you, then I have a special opportunity for you (one that VERY FEW clinics offer). I save a limited number of spots each week for time for people who are not sure what to do about their lymphedema. That way, you can tell a professional your story, and get your questions answered first, before ever making a commitment to book an appointment. Here’s the most important thing… Most people get stuck trying to make a decision about what to do next. They go days, weeks, months (even years!) without taking action. So the next important thing is to take action. Click below with the best method to figure out the best treatment for you! Hope to hear from you soon, Dr. Megan Rome, PT, DPT, CLT |

Joanne I recently completed my sessions with Megan for Lymphedema of the Breast tissue after surgery and radiation. Not a great year ! I wanted to relay my appreciation and extreme satisfaction with Megan and my therapy. Megan was Excellent..Megan was always on top of my case. She took the time to explain the Lymphatic System and the medical reasons for why I was swollen and in pain. I appreciated that, as most professionals don't take the time to explain the procedures...She did !! She taught me the Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) system, which also involved breathing exercises to reduce swelling and pain throughout the week and measured my success the following weekly visit. I needed to learn this, and she was so patient, professional, and knowledgeable and also explained the different stages of Lymphedema, so I would understand how important it was for me to do the work and breathing...for which I am so grateful..We don't always follow directions!!! Most importantly Megan was supportive, and encouraging and I enjoyed her enthusiasm, warm, and friendly personality at each physical therapy session! What a positive experience this has been for me! |
Jessica I became Megan's patient during the one of the most traumatic and painful experiences of my life. Prior to and after my bilateral mastectomy she treated me with compassion and understanding. She was able to ease my lymphedema symptoms through massage and gave me practical exercises and techniques to use at home as well. I always felt comfortable and at ease during such personal treatments. I am so thankful for her wonderful smile, compassion and expertise during such a trying time in life. |
